Hi, I'm Karin. I am a fully qualified dog trainer, running courses in Belbroughton Bromsgrove.I have both owned and professionally trained dogs for more than thirty years. I have a wide knowledge of most breeds and have extensive experience in;

  • obedience training,
  • heelwork to music,
  • breeding and showing dogs,
  • agility and PAT work (Pets As Therapy)
  • ringcraft

I am a qualified trainer, kennel club listed and an approved qualified kennel club assessor for the Bronze award. I understand the benefits of training dogs through the clicker method which is a positive reward based style of training.

Dogs taught using this method want to follow instruction from their owner rather than feeling they have to. I take people from a wide area as I am centrally located for Bromsgrove/Stourbridge , South West Birmingham and the Black Country.

During Training we use a clicker as a learning tool to help our dogs understand what we are asking of them. Once they understand why they are being clicked, they will try hard to achieve their reward, which is usually a food treat or a toy.

There are no harsh methods used, and as a result, both dog and owner will be relaxed while learning.

Classes are usually limited to around 10 pups in the puppy classes and 12 dogs in the other classes so that we all have plenty of space to work and the dogs don't feel overcrowded.

A bit about Clicker Training

What is a Clicker?

A clicker us a plastic noisemaker with a metal spring. push in and release the spring to make a noise. One in-out, double sound is a "Click"

Why click? Can't I simply praise or pet my dog?

Here are a few reasons why a clicker is better than voice praise or petting.

  • You use your voice for everything. The click is uniquely attached to the dog's successful performance. It is his or her own signal of excellence.
  • the click marks the precise moment of success -- the moment the dog lies down, the instant he sits. It is an "acoustic arrow". Praise tends to blur the precise moment we wish to reinforce. Petting is even less exact. The click tells the dog precisely what action gets the payoff.
  • the clicker has no moods. Even if you're tired or stressed, the click sounds the same no matter what you feel.
  • The click eliminates ambiguity -- black/white, payoff/no payoff. This clearly makes learning quicker and easier.
  • The click has no age limitations. with voice based training, a child can rarely control a dog. However, with clicker training, a child can easily help train the dog.
  • Best of all, clicker training is fun!
